AKF

A major goal of the Foundation is to improve the quality of basic education for all children by increasing students' access to schools and raising retention and completion rates. It strives to improve the quality of education through attention to academic achievement and community-based early childhood development services that build on local culture and resources. To maintain the quality in schools, AKF works to ensure participation by parents and communities in developing curricula and managing and financing schools. The Foundation also strengthens local and regional institutions that play a role in teacher training, curriculum development and leadership programs. An overarching concern is to promote equal access to education for girls and boys.

Some of the projects that AKF has developed with its partner agencies involve school improvement; early childhood development; establishing resource centers that are available to a wider set of teachers with varying levels of education and experience; and training communities to create mini-endowments community-based schools.
