NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION RESOURCE CENTRE

AKF partners with hundreds of organizations around the world to widen the impact of its development efforts. Building of successful partnerships, however, depends on the capacity of the organizations to effectively operate and deliver services.

The NGO Resource Center (NGORC) was established in Pakistan in 1993 and in Zanzibar in 1996. The mission of the NGORC is to enhance organizations and systems that promote gender-sensitive participatory approaches to social and economic development. While principally concerned with citizen organizations, NGORC's mission explicitly includes an interest in enabling public and private sector organizations to become more effective in contributing towards citizen-led initiatives. By adding a focus on systems, NGORC promotes a whole system' approach toward analyzing society and an approach that intends to undertake initiatives that can shift entire systems and not merely affect direct participants.

The overall goal of the NGORC in Pakistan is to strengthen the citizen sector through enhancing the role and contribution of citizen organizations in socio-economic development, promoting an enabling environment for the sector, increasing participation of women in development, and developing an effective and replicable resource center model. In its second phase of operations from 1998-2003, NGORC is developing specific programs to deepen the quality and extend the outreach of its services.

One of the organizations that NGORC worked with was the Bright Education Society based in the Qasba Colony, Karachi . To read more about the bravery and perseverance of this citizen organization as well as the kinds of benefits that the organization derives from the Resource Center , click here.
